Upcoming Training for Communities across Dorset:

Bite-Sized Training Sessions

Tuesday 20th May 2025
3 sessions starting from from 2pm, 2.45pm and then 3.30pm
Online via Zoom

14:00 Writing a killer bid
Building on the discussions at the recent Thriving Community Spaces event, we will look at how a small community space that is pushed for resources can make a really effective bid.

14:45 Community spaces and trading
Most community spaces rely on hire fees and other earned income which is a great position to be in. Increasingly, community spaces can be set up as community businesses or Co-ops or be involved in such projects. This session will look at the pros and cons and legal basis of trading.

15:30 Reporting to funders and other stakeholders
As the financial year ends, you may be required to pull a report together for a funder. Even if you aren’t, you may want to report on what you have accomplished to a wider audience. Here are some hints and tips for doing that easily and effectively.

Discussion & Question time after each presentation.

Community Spaces Networking:
Keeping Costs Down

Wednesday 18th June 2025
10am-11.30am
Online via Zoom

The next networking meeting will concentrate on how you can keep the costs down. We will be looking at energy costs and big-ticket items such as annual insurance.

Speakers at the event are:

  • Adam Mussellwhite from Norris & Fisher who will be looking at how to get the best deals – and save money with Hallmark
  • Kimberley Page from Utility Aid will be talking about getting the best tariffs and dealing with problem bills

We will also have updates on policy changes affecting community spaces (such as Martyn’s Law below), current funding news and an opportunity to share your own news and views and to ask the network any burning questions.

Roles and responsibilities of Community Spaces Trustees

Wednesday 25th June
5.30pm – 7pm
Online via Zoom

Aimed at ensuring that trustees are confident in the role and understand how they can contribute valuable experience and skills, this longer session will be useful for newer trustees, and as a refresher for established volunteers. The session will look at the legal and strategic responsibilities of trustees. It will de-mystify some of the things that are required and identify sources of help and information. You will be able to network with other trustees and share your ideas.
