DCA provides advice to individuals, communities and voluntary groups through projects designed to help vulnerable people get the right information and to understand their options. With this knowledge they can take action to keep their homes warm more affordably.  The delivery of the following projects would not be possible without the support of the following funders: Department of Energy & Climate Change, British Gas Energy Trust, and partners: Citizens’ Advice in Dorset (CAID), Magna Housing Association, Wyvern Savings & Loans, Age UK Dorset and Dorset AONB.

Best Energy Saving Network (BESN) Project

British Gas energy Trust (BGET) Healthy Homes Project

  • Would you like to know how to save money on your energy bills by switching your energy supplier, tariff or payment method?  If so, we can:

  • Help you make the best choices about energy suppliers and to help you understand your options for saving money on your energy bills, through our free advice and information sessions.

  • Enable you to make informed decisions about the tariff you are on, your payment method, the benefits of switching and energy efficiency, by providing a range of easy to understand guidance, and access to further sources of help and advice.

  • For community organisations, empower your vulnerable beneficiaries by equipping them with the tools they need to take action, through our effective and practical outreach programme.

  • Offer free training to frontline community workers, aiming to give workers the tools to support clients on a day to day basis with good quality information about energy supplier issues, energy efficiency and budgeting options.

  • Provide advice on energy efficiency and grants available (such as the Energy Company Obligation) and will signpost to other support services where necessary (for example via our Healthy Homes project below).

  • Do you find it hard to pay your gas and electricity bills?

  • Is your home hard to heat?

  • Would you like to check you are getting all the benefits and financial help you are entitled to?

  • Will keeping warm in winter be made more difficult by poor physical or mental health, having a disability, having young children under 5, or living off-gas?

If the answer is YES to any of these questions, then the Healthy Homes Partnership is ready to help.  Our friendly advisors offer a range of support and advice on benefit claims, switching suppliers, home improvements, and loans and grants.  In addition to government grants, there are specific loans and grants available through this project.
