On the 20th June Dorset Community Action hosted it’s first ‘Your Community Space’ conference.  This was a conference for the people and organisations that run the buildings that matter to our communities.

There were over 60 delegates who met the many exhibitors who helped them through the minefield of marketing, insurance, policies and procedures, trustee governance, health and safety, volunteering, energy advice, booking systems and funding.  The Friendly Food Club provided a delicious light lunch and talked to the audience about how important community buildings are to them.  Everyone had the opportunity to network, form new links, share resources and we received really positive feedback from the delegates and exhibitors alike.  Overall everyone felt they made good connections and the delegates left the conference feeling better prepared to run their community building more sustainably.

We also used the event as an opportunity to ask the delegates what additional help they felt they needed.  This information, along with the information collected from the exhibitors will be used to put together a resource pack – a pack that can be accessed by DCA members as a quick reference guide to give them ongoing support.
