Many charities enjoy an enviably high profile via large advertising budgets or celebrity endorsement. Yet the fact remains that there are a great many "unsung" charities that provide literally, an invaluable service - many on a local basis.

Age Concern Ferndown and District is one such organisation that has helped and is helping many elderly people with a vital weekly lunch club. Sadly advancing years can herald a lack of social interaction and regular contact with friends and neighbours. Age Concern Ferndown and District bridges a gap that exists for these often lonely individuals.

Our weekly lunch and social clubs at The Barrington Centre and at St Leonards and St Ives Village Hall are run with professionalism, care and good humour. Guests are able to meet, chat, catch up and enjoy a hot meal often with afternoon entertainment.  As a bonus our Charity offers transport from their home and back via our mini bus service.

Anyone wishing to see for themselves quite what a remarkable job this Charity does need only visit and talk to the guests. Time and time again we are reminded just how important our role in the local community is, not just from our guests but from their families also.

We can always put volunteers to good use and we currently have an urgent need for volunteer drivers at The Barrington Centre. If you are under 70 years old, confident and friendly we would like to hear from you - we even provide driver training in case you are a little hesitant.
