At this year’s event we have 3 key note speakers:

The Big Lottery Fund gives grants to organisations in the UK to help improve their communities. Over the last couple of years they have reviewed guidance, simplified the application process and “put people in the lead”. This session will provide an overview of the changes to Big Lottery Funding programmes and in particular Reaching Communities. Funding Manager, Kirsty Main.

Dorset Community Foundation are a local grant-making organisation, that run a number of funding programmes prioritising small local charities and community groups that benefit Dorset residents. In October they launch their Hidden Dorset 2 report, which looks at the challenges faced by different areas in Dorset and aims to ignite conversation on how we might work together to address the issues affecting our communities. Grants Manager, Ellie Maguire will summarise the main findings of the report.

Funding Lessons learned – hints and tips and lessons learned from those who have been through it! Hear from a collection of Dorset charities that have achieved recent funding success. Find out what they learnt on the way and the ups and downs of fundraising.  

3 Practical “Making an application” workshops from:

  • Dorset Community Foundation, Grants Manager, Ellie Maguire will give an overview of the Foundations funding programmes and tips for writing funding applications.
  • Talbot Village Trust, Daryl Tidd will explain the application process, what the trustees are looking for and what makes a stand out application.
  • Awards for All, Big Lottery, Kirsty Main will provide some practical tips on applying to Awards for All, what to include and how to involve people.

Social Enterprise – Kick start your idea. As grant funding becomes more competitive and the funding pots get smaller, more charities and community groups are looking at other ways of raising funds – through social enterprise. This DCA workshop will look at kick-starting your social enterprise idea to fund the good work your organisation undertakes.

Using Social Media to raise funds, A DCA workshop exploring how social media can play a BIG role in fundraising – beyond simply asking for donations. Find out how you can use social media to reach more people, inspire more action and raise more money.

Key messages for funding – short practical session from Nicky Mathews, Owner of Media Box Marketing, Co-Founder of the Marketing Menu and member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, will help you put together a knock out positioning statement and tell others what’s F.A.B. about what your organisation does.

Low Carbon Dorset - Is your community on the frontline of the green energy revolution? Low Carbon Dorset, a Dorset County Council led programme, is supporting community led projects looking to use renewable energy technologies to reduce their carbon emissions.  Through this workshop the Low Carbon Dorset team will be providing more information on the funding available, how to apply, and sharing some of the local success stories. Fraud Awareness, Gemma Davies, Virgin Money will raise awareness about Fraud, share best practice in regards to what to look out and stay as safe as possible not only online but post and telephone.

The Funding Market Place will be open throughout the day and provides you with an opportunity to talk face to face with funders and support organisations. Find out how they can support your organisation achieve its goals. From recruiting volunteers and trustees, to securing funds get your questions answered.

You can also talk to DCA Community advisors. Ask DCA anything from developing trading income to developing your evidence of need and finding funders and find out more about how DCA can support your organisation. (Allen Room)

Finally, at the end of the day there will be a Panel of Experts to answer your funding questions. Has anything arisen throughout the day that you have not had answered? This is your opportunity (whilst they are still in the room) to ask your burning funding question?
