Travelling Book USA page

Here are some of the pictures and pages that Pennsylvania students added to the World Traveling Book while it was here in March.

I am a travelling pediatric Physical Therapist and work with students who have physical disabilities in various school settings - from preschools ( ages 3 - 5 years old) up to high schools ( 9th - 12th grades or ages 14 - 18 years). I brought the Traveling Book with me to several schools, in two different school districts in the Pittsburgh, PA area. One school district is in a town that is a "blue collar" workers type town with old steel mills right on the Allegheny River. The schools and equipment ( computers, physical education equipment, library, books) are older and this district does not have many resources. The other school district is from an affluent suburb of Pittsburgh, with many state of the art facilities ( new buildings, new computers, new physical education equipment, etc.)

Both districts included students who were both disabled and "able bodied" and were excited to add their ideas to the Traveling Book. I visited elementary schools, middle schools and high schools, took pictures ( tons of photos), and then asked students which photos and ideas were important to them to include in the book. We could have done 12 - 14 pages...as the USA is so big, and so diverse, but we tried to capture the feel of western Pennsylvania, while including some info about the USA as a whole. Our area of the country had record breaking snowfall in February ( over 40 " of snow) and the two weeks in March we had record warm temps for this time of the year. In several pictures you will see students outside "on recess" in the school playground playing basketball, and games with shorts and summer clothes on while huge pile of snow are still in the background!
